Similar to Octavian and his shackles, this baby horse’s tubes have become a part of him. Ever since he was born, this baby horse has been hooked up to tubes and monitors, according to him, they are a parto him. After a while, Octavian becomes used to the shackles that bind him. They are a part of him, so he feels nothing. While they have different circumstances, neither sees a difference between what binds them and what is them. him. This is an image of a dog falling down a crack between the couch and the foot rest. He is similar to Octavian, because Octavian failed (fell) when he tried to be a farmer. This dog tried to jump from the couch to the foot rest, which he has never done before. Since he has only one sholder, and a sprained knee (he is a cripple) he could not do it, and he plunged down to the ground. Octavian attempted to do farm work in fields, but since he had lived a sheltered life and had never left the college, (he had no idea how to work in a field) he failed at working in the field, just like the dog.
In this image, there is a shy, and nervous tiny horse. He represents Octavian, because he does not speak, or show his brilliance, but when he does show how smart he is, he realizes that he is worth more than he thinks. It also represents all the people of the house breaking out of their frames (their numbers) and using their real names, finding their own identities. It shows this because he is just a baby horse, and as he grows up he will find himself, and who he really is.
In the story Octavian Nothing, Octavian lives in a house full of men with his mother. He and his mother are the only ones in the house with real names. All of the other men are referred to with a certain number. The dogs on this sock are all the same, with no identity, similar to the numbered men in the story. The dogs also represent Cloud, Octavians stray dog friend that he unknowingly poisoned and killed.
