BOR Core 5 #3 lit circle



This is the scene where Captain Smith comes back from traveling. Samuel tells Smith that twelve of the guys are getting ready to set sail from Virginia back to England. Smith tells the guys on the fort to set up a cannon and fire if the refuse to stay. Then he tells the to stay or sink. And they stay with bringing the food back and the ship back to shore.

  • Jamestown was founded in 1607
  • founded 13 years before the pilgrims at plymouth
  • the first two english woman came to Jamestown in 1608 a year after it was founded
  • Captain John Smith became the colony’s leader in September 1608 – the fourth in a succession of council presidents – and established a “no work, no food” policy.  Smith had been instrumental in trading with the Powhatan Indians for food.  However, in the fall of 1609 he was injured by burning gunpowder and left for England.  Smith never returned to Virginia, but promoted colonization of North America until his death in 1631 and published numerous accounts of the Virginia colony, providing invaluable material for historians.
  • Smiths departure made a period of very starving people and a lot of english men and woman died because of this and decess
  • To make profit for the Virginia Company people started there one little companies
