Core 6 A Break with charity (Eugene Lauren Miguel)

Scan3.jpg

This is a drawing of all of the madness caused by Anne’s accusations of witchcraft. A apple tart is drawn as Susanna gives some to Anne. Also included are gallows and an evil witch to the left of Anne Putnam. The gallows represent all the death and sadness to come.

1)  Discussion Question #1

Is Ann Putnam crazy?
She young, she bored, she smart, she faking- Miguel. I think that she is not crazy, but that she wants attention

2) Discussion Question #2

If you were in Tituba’s position, what would have you had done?
Tituba was smart because she had a better chance of admitting than denying. She should not have made the witch cake.

3) Discussion Question #3

Would you have asked to go to Ann Putnam’s house like Susana did?
I would’ve gone. But if she hadn’t gone, a big part of the story wouldn’t have been told. If she was hot, yes- Miguel

4) Discussion Question #4

Other than being easy targets, why do you think that the “possessed” girls chose who they chose?
No, because they are just easy targets. Maybe because they had grudges against them.
Come together, right noooooow, over me.

1.   Susanna uses the phrase when a thought comes to her “Like the sun through the window.” which is a simile. Page 78

2.    “I went, but I never told my parents what it was that I discovered.” That is foreshadowing because she is giving an indication of the future. Page 81

3.   In the book they used the phrase: ”I feel as if I’ve been shunted aside like a stale fish.” Which is a simile. Page 113

4.   Susanna has a moment of anagnorisis when she figures out about why Ann is part of the circle and why Betty was acting strangely.” “Is that why you joined the circle? To use it to avenge your mother’s enemies?” “The child is a dafter. She ruined everything. I warned her about those fits.” Page 86

5. “You’re such a little dove, Susanna.” Abigail uses this metaphor to describe Susanna. Page 113
